She sits at her desk, watching. Waiting. Absently humming a Phineas and Ferb song under her breath. Her fingers are poised, ready, on Tony's keys, tapping, but not pressing. No words come, not yet, not until it's time.
She's tried to distract herself, reading fiction and fanfiction, manga and comics, YA and fantasy, watching anime and British comedy, but she always finds herself dragged back to this, the waiting. The gum she eventually started to chew got her to focus for a little longer, to put more detail into the characters, the scenery, overall feel of her story (which is odd, considering she's pretty vague when it comes to planning), but she got too antsy to keep at it.
God, this is excruciating. It's stupid too, she has school tomorrow, and she's got to get up at 5:45 am to get ready.
The number on the digital clock rises, and her heart jumps, anxiety and anticipation twining in her stomach. She looks at her commandments for NaNo, and thinks of the long stretch of November ahead of her. It'd be great if she won, but mainly she's in it for the experience. And the free proof copy of her book, should she win.
Another minute tiks by, and her heart flutters. She pushes her glasses further up the bridge of her nose, and glances at her plot outline, trying to figure out how to start her story. Yes, the point is more quantity than quality, but she wants it to be a good story, something that's fun to read, but less rough than she knows it will be, come the end of November.
It's ten minutes to midnight, and she's on edge and tired, but she knows it'll be worth it. Entwined in the mess of chaos and nerves that she knows will come, there will be deep the deep satisfaction of completion, knowing that she's kept a promise to herself and accomplished something that she'll remember for the rest of her life.
The minute, second and hour hand on the wall clock converge, just as her digital watch beeps to signal the hour. Finally, she presses down on Tony's keys, and the blank paper of Word begins to fill with her favourite font.
Yup, that's about me...NaNo starts in TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES. Wish me luck...
(and yes, my laptop is called Tony)
